Welcome to the eighth edition of UKRAINETT News! In this issue, we will share the latest updates, upcoming events, and new developments from across our network.
On 11–12 November 2026, the next annual UKRAINETT+ conference will be held at Oslo Metropolitan University. We are pleased to announce that the call for abstract now is open. We are also happy to disclose some details from the conference programme, including our keynote speakers, Oleksii Haran, Olga Onuch, and Yulia Yurchuk, as well as several of the expert panel participants. Following the conference, Nord University Business School will host the workshop “Futures of the Norwegian–Ukrainian Cooperation: Year 2036” at OsloMet on 12 - 13 November, open for 30 interested conference participants.
Please spread the word about the call for abstracts within your networks and among your colleagues! Registration for attendance will open at a later stage.
The UKRAINETT+ project has allocated funds to stimulate research project development and cooperation involving Norwegian and Ukrainian researchers and institutions. We remind you that the next deadline is 1 May 2026. Further details available here.
The Research Council of Norway and the National Research Foundation of Ukraine are launching a joint call for Norwegian–Ukrainian research projects addressing mental health challenges in Ukraine during the ongoing war. You can find more information about the call below.

The latest Ukrainian-language edition, prepared by Olena Muradyan, Dean of the Faculty of Sociology at Karazin Kharkiv University, provides updates on the activities of Ukrainian research institutions participating in the UKRAINETT+ project.

SUBMIT YOUR PAPER OR PANEL PROPOSAL
The next annual UKRAINETT+ conference, titled "State and Society Under Pressure: Internal and External Dynamics" will be hosted by OsloMet on 11–12 November 2026. The call for abstracts is now open, and we warmly invite you to submit your paper by 15 May. Both individual paper proposals and panel proposal are invited.

FUTURES OF THE NORWEGIAN-UKRAINIAN COOPERATION: YEAR 2036
The future is unpredictable – but it can be explored. Nord University Business School invites you to a two-part scenario-building workshop examining possible development pathways for Norwegian–Ukrainian cooperation toward 2036. The workshop will take place on 12–13 November, as a continuation of the UKRAINETT conference.

UKRAINE VERSUS RUSSIA: A WAR BETWEEN TWO CULTURES?
The Northern Norwegian Ukraine Hub (Nordnorsk Ukraina-hub), in collaboration with the Centre for Geopolitics, Peace and Security (GPS), is organising a mini‑workshop with Ingunn Lunde (UiB) and Arve Hansen (the Norwegian Helsinki Committee). The event is open to the public and will take place on 20 March at UiT. No registration required.

UKRAINE’S HISTORY: FROM THE EAST SLAVIC MIDDLE AGES TO A MODERN DEMOCRACY
On 10 March there will be an open lecture with Ingunn Lunde at Bergen Public Library. The event traces Ukraine’s path to independence, from the East Slavic Middle Ages and the 17th‑century Cossack state to modern nation‑building and today’s democracy.

SUMMER SCHOOL IN CHIȘINĂU
“Diversity and Marginality in the Black Sea Region” is the theme of the 2026 Summer School in Chișinău, which explores how the Black Sea region functions as a dynamic space shaped by interconnected societal, economic, cultural, and political transformations. Organized by leading research centers in Ukraine and the University of St. Gallen, the program focuses on cultural and political dynamics. Apply by April 1.

SERIES OF LECTURES ON RETURN MIGRATION
The Institute for Social Research (ISF) will organize a national lecture tour featuring Ukrainian scholars from 23 to 27 March. The tour will address the topic of return migration to Ukraine. Events will take place in Oslo on 23 March, in Bergen on 25 March, and in Trondheim on 27 March. Further information and registration are available at the link below.

SOCIETAL RESILIENCE AND LOCAL GOVERNANCE IN UKRAINE AMID THE RUSSIAN FULLSCALE INVASION

LGBTQ RIGHTS AND ANTI-GENDER POLITICS IN WARTIME UKRAINE
UKRAINETT and the Norwegian Helsinki Committee held a seminar on 25 February on LGBTQ Rights and Anti‑Gender Politics in Wartime Ukraine, featuring Maryna Shevtsova (KU Leuven) and Maryna Rabinovych (UiT). Recording of the event is available at the link.

UKRAINIAN-RUSSIAN BILINGUALISM IN WARTIME
|
UiT hosted a one‑day workshop on 6 November 2025 examining Ukrainian–Russian bilingualism in wartime. Sessions addressed language use in higher education, media, music, refugee interpreting in Norway, and work on Ukrainian grammar in Norway. GLOBALIZING UKRAINE’S FOREIGN POLICY
|
A new one‑year project funded by the Folke Bernadotte Academy has been launched, led by Maryna Rabinovych (UiT) in partnership with the NGO Ukrainian Prism. The project examines the development of Ukraine’s foreign policy during wartime, with a focus on its interactions with international partners and its alignment with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy.

FIFTH ROUND OF UKRAINETT+ SEED FUNDING
|
The UKRAINETT+ project has allocated funds to stimulate research project development and cooperation involving Norwegian and Ukrainian researchers and institutions. The next deadline is 1 May 2026.
A Norwegian institution must be the applicant and project coordinator. At least two institutions should be involved in the collaboration, and both Ukrainian and Norwegian institutions must be represented.
Funding may cover travel, seminars and other activities related to network-building and project development. The activities to be funded should include concrete plans for applications to external funding sources. The research topic should be related to Ukraine/Ukrainian Studies.
