Welcome to the seventh edition of UKRAINETT News! In this issue, we will share the latest updates, upcoming events, and new developments from across our network.
The Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (HK-dir) has announced the recipients of the Ukraine Competence Programme (UA-KOMP) call for funding. We are happy to announce that UKRAINETT, and several of our members, have been awarded funding for the period 2026–2027. HK-dir is currently accepting applications for Nansen EDU – Norwegian–Ukrainian Cooperation in Higher Education.
Save the dates: on 11–12 November 2026 the next annual UKRAINETT+ conference will be organized at Oslo Metropolitan University. Further details will be published in due time.
UKRAINETT has recently joined the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies, an international alliance dedicated to advancing research and understanding of Ukraine.
Furthermore, the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) has announced the establishment of a Ukraine Centre, which will serve as a hub for NUPI’s Ukraine-related research.
The latest Ukrainian-language edition, prepared by Olena Muradyan, Dean of the Faculty of Sociology at Karazin Kharkiv University, provides updates on the activities of Ukrainian research institutions participating in the UKRAINETT+ project.
A new Ukrainian-language podcast episode about local government in Ukraine and how the war has affected Ukrainian municipalities is now available.

UA-KOMP - RECIPIENTS OF FUNDING
HK-dir has announced the recipients of the Programme for Ukraine Expertise Multi-Year Funding 2025. UKRAINETT has been awarded funding for 2026–2027 under the recent call. Several projects involving UKRAINETT members also received support. See the full list via the link.

NANSEN EDU – CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
HK-dir offers grants for Norwegian–Ukrainian higher education partnerships through Nansen EDU. Applicants must be NOKUT-accredited Norwegian higher education institutions, and each application must include at least two partner institutions in Ukraine. Apply by 2 March 2026.

NUPI UKRAINE CENTRE
|
The NUPI Ukraine Centre serves as a hub for research on Ukraine, with a focus on areas such as security policy, governance, defence cooperation, reconstruction, critical infrastructure, and developments in occupied regions. The Centre is led by John Karlsrud, Research Professor at NUPI, and Natalia Moen-Larsen, Senior Research Fellow at NUPI.

UKRAINETT JOINS THE GLOBAL COALITION OF UKRAINIAN STUDIES
On 23 October UKRAINETT attended a ceremony at the University of Oslo to mark its formal accession to the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies, an international alliance, supported by First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, promoting knowledge and understanding of Ukraine.

Save the dates for the next annual UKRAINETT+ conference, hosted by OsloMet on 11–12 November 2026. The event will bring together scholars and experts from various disciplines to exchange ideas, foster collaboration, and engage in meaningful discussions . UKRAINETT + CONFERENCE
|
On 14 and 15 October 2025, the University of Bergen hosted the second annual UKRAINETT+ conference, “The War and Beyond: Perspectives on Ukrainian Culture and Society,” This year’s conference focused primarily on the humanities and law, covering a wide range of topics and disciplines within Ukrainian studies.

The keynote sessions, ‘Culture Bridges in Europe and Ukrainian Literature During Wartime’ (Bohdana Neborak) and ‘Living on the Edge: Ukraine, Overcoming Empire and Cultural Entanglements’ (Uilleam Blacker), from the UKRAINETT+ conference were streamed live. UKRAINIAN ECONOMY AND NORWEGIAN-UKRAINIAN ECONOMIC COOPERATION
|
UKRAINETT held a breakfast seminar on the Ukrainian economy and Norwegian-Ukrainian economic cooperation on 31 October, featuring speakers from the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI) and the Norwegian-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce (NUCC). The recording is available on our website.

THIRD HROMADA CONFERENCE AND WORKSHOP
HROMADA, Nordic-Baltic Knowledge Network for the Rebuilding of Ukraine, held its third conference at the Stockholm School of Economics 12 November. It was followed by a workshop for HROMADA members on the following day.

UKRAINE AT WAR: HOW TO MOBILIZE THE PEOPLE FOR WAR?
|

COALITION OF THE WILLING FOR UKRAINE TRACKER
|
By creating a Coalition of the Willing, allied leaders acted upon the growing recognition that Europe must take the lead in securing Ukraine’s future, and NATO has de facto been ruled out as an option. This project explores whether allies in the Coalition of the Willing have the political resolve and military capacity to send forces, by land, sea, or air, to secure Ukraine’s future.

EVIDENCE-INFORMED DECISION-MAKING: STRATEGIC CAPACITY BUILDING FOR UKRAINE
|
Oxford Research’s programme, led by Inna Khovrak, helps public institutions, universities and civil society apply research and data in strategic decisions. Over 26 weeks, participants examined post-crisis planning, stakeholder engagement, MEAL systems, digital tools, data ethics and inclusive leadership.
|

|
|
|
|
|
|
UKRAINETT+ SEED FUNDING
|
The UKRAINETT+ project has allocated funds to stimulate research project development and cooperation involving Norwegian and Ukrainian researchers and institutions. The next deadline is 1 May 2026. The application form will be available when the call opens.
A Norwegian institution must be the applicant and project coordinator. At least two institutions should be involved in the collaboration, and both Ukrainian and Norwegian institutions must be represented. Funding may cover travel, seminars and other activities related to network-building and project development.
The activities to be funded should include concrete plans for applications to external funding sources. The research topic should be related to Ukraine/Ukrainian Studies. Maximum funding for each application is NOK 50,000. The funds in the present call must be utilised by the end of 2026.
