UKRAINETT NEWS

Dear UKRAINETT members, friends of UKRAINETT and all interested in Ukraine and research on Ukraine,

Welcome to the fifth edition of UKRAINETT News! In this issue, we are excited to share the latest updates, upcoming events, and new developments from across our network.

One of the key highlights this time is the launch of a new program at the Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies, focusing on Ukraine and full-spectrum threats. This initiative aims to advance knowledge on Ukrainian security policy and explore the broader implications of Russia’s military strategies for Ukrainian, European, and Norwegian security.

We are also happy to introduce a brand-new Ukrainian podcast episode from our partners at Operatyvna Sotsiolohiia. In this episode, we speak with Anna Novosad, co-founder of the SavEd Foundation and former Minister of Education and Science in Ukraine, about education, resilience, and the challenges of rebuilding.

Looking ahead, we warmly invite you to mark your calendars for the upcoming UKRAINETT+ conference, “The War and Beyond: Perspectives on Ukrainian Culture and Society,” taking place in Bergen on 14–15 October. You can read more about the conference and the two keynote speakers, Bohdana Neborak and Uilleam Blacker, further down in this issue.

This fall, we are also hosting two exciting seminars. On 19 August, join us at OsloMet for the seminar “Data Protection, Competition and Consumer Law Interplay in a Data-Driven Economy,” organized in cooperation with Liliia Oprysk, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law (University of Bergen). Then, on 21 August, in collaboration with the University of Oslo, we will take a closer look at the origins of the ongoing war in a seminar with Professor Serhiy Kudelia (Baylor University), titled “Revisiting 2014: What the Outbreak of the Russo-Ukrainian War Reveals About Its Causes.” You will also find updates on more upcoming and recent events across the network, including what to look out for at this year’s Arendalsuka.

Finally, do not miss the latest publications from our members, including scholarly articles, popular science contributions, and feature stories.

Thank you for staying connected with UKRAINETT News

Best regards,

Marthe Handå Myhre, Aadne Aasland, Mathilde Hjelle and Oleksandra Deineko
